Sorry for the really basic question guys, but i know next to nothing about laptops.

My wife has a fairly ancient Toshiba Satellite Pro 2100 that is crippled by only having 256mb ram. I've looked up some 'memory configurators' that some memory manufacturers have and it appears that 2 x 512mb DDR PC2700 333MHz 200-pin SODIMM is the maximum that i can install. However, how fussy are laptops in relation to memory as 'guaranteed to work' memory is often 50% more expensive than some generic ram of the same specification that i could get.

Any advice would be gratefully received :)
