Stupid question but curious

Im hoping somebody can answer this question,

i have a E2180 core 2 duo processer,

I have been looking into overclocking this, There is a tool on the ASUS CD called AI Suite, In here there is a util to OC the CPU within windows, my question is

FSB is 800MHZ, then there is a separate figure of 200mhz * 6 add the 2 together andi get the 2000ghz my cpu runs at. I dont understand why i have FSB and a separate figure of 200mhz * 6 I just presumed i would need to up the FSB and monitor temps etc.

Maybe its a sign im getting old lol, my first PC i built about 12 years ago you could just up the FSB and maybe the mutiplier if need be to OC.

Use the overclocking features in the BIOS instead of the AI Suite.

Ignore the 800mhz FSB and go by the 200mhz figure (your multiplier is actually x10, but it has dropped to x6 due to SpeedStep).

BIOS is better for overclocking, helps find if its stable by booting into windows.

The Core 2's use a 'quad pumped' FSB, so 800Mhz is really 200 Mhz as far as the CPU is concerned.

Bear in mind that some motherboards don't let you adjust the fsb , only the quad pumped fsb. So increasing the quad pumped fsb by 10Mhz, increases the cpu speed to 2025 Mhz (assuming stock is 2Ghz).

Ahhh i didnt know about the quad pumped FSB, that makes sense, This is what AI suite shows. I checked in the BIOS this morning as i thought i had been underclocking my cpu lol
