Stupid question from a new 4870 owner (drivers)

Being a NV fanboy Ive never had to download any ATI drivers in my life.

My new 4870's should be here any day now, but I dont have a clue as to what drivers/control panels I need, plus theres the word "Hotfix" flying around which I think I need?

Can any provide any info or links for everything I need, Ive checked AMD's site but theres nothing on a 4870!
 
Game.amd.com tends to have the latest release drivers on. The next drivers that should be available will be the 8.7 drivers next month, which should support your 4870, til then use that Hotfix driver :)

I've noticed in several posts that quite a few people will be moving to ATI graphics for the first time, find it rather funny that a bunch of people have never used ATI before?

Can't figure out the reasons but its most likely you read some forum posts by a bunch of nVidiots saying something like "The ATI drivers are awful" or "The Radeon image quality is really bad" etc etc :D
 
You can just install the Hotfix as its a full driver package, incidentally, the 8.6's fully support the 4800's as they are in the .inf's, so you can just download them if you want them from under the 3800's. :)

Lol, nothing like that at all, nv have owned ati for a long time now and have made the best gpu 4 the money, until now ati couldnt touch nv! But 'now' its different, ati offer an excellent gpu 4 half the cost of the nv and nearly as fast. Thats right, nv still have the fastest single card, but only a fool would ignore the prices, that is why a lot of nv boys will buy ati cards this year instead!

What GPU were you using when the Radeon 9800Pro was out then?

Yes it was hard and I wont be convinced till Ive tired my card myself.

When was the 9800Pro out? I cant think that far back. I may of had a 7800GTX, if it was before that then SLI 6600GT's ;)
 
I'm due to get a HD4850, and it's my first Ati card since Riva 128, and have been using Nvidia's for years.

My question is whats the best way of uninstalling all the Nvidia drivers before installing the new Ati ones?

Its going to be my first, but only because i've just been in to pc for the past 2 years.

im sorry but no. nobody with an ounce of sense would want to forget the 9700pro, one of the most important releases in the market. you cant change history just by ignoring it. 'until now' never happened - ati stomped all over nvidia with the 9700's.
 
Sheesh let the guy have some peace. Some ppl aren't old enough to have bought a card when the 9700 was new :)

Whats your point?? I couldnt care less about a card from 3 years ago, what is important now is a card or two lasting me the next 18months for nearly £400, I'm more concerned about performance than who makes the thing!
