Hi all, when you get those two black bars in the top right corner of an envelope, does that indicate free post, or is that where you stick the stamp? Sending back my tax return and wondering if i actually need a stamp on it ;)

Thanks and sorry for the dumbness.

If it has a 1 or 2 in it it is prepaid (freepost). If it doesn't then you probably need a stamp. Or just draw a wee picture of the queen.

The pre-printed envelope would usually tell you (first line of address being FREEPOST for example) but if it doesn't you'd usually find that it is mentioned in the letter you got with the envelope.

heheh ;)

it has a 2 next to it, so i'm assuming that means free second class postage?

Yep. 2nd calss prepaid envelope.

I'd draw the picture to be on the safe side anyway. :D

I was going to say that, maybe the peron opening the envelope will see the funny side ;)
