Stupid question probably

I bought a Clio earlier this year and it's been bothering me what these are for at the corners of the windscreen:

I haven't a clue, thought it might be something to do with the airbags. I've seen them in other cars. It's probably blindingly obvious, but how can I know what I don't know!

My Clio has them in the same place, definately lasers. Avoiding being zapped can be quite difficult with the dodgy French electrics and all.

Also its called volumetric sensoring and uses ultrasound to detect movement so i believe.
