Stupid questions from an iTunes newbie

Hi guys,

I've just bought a 5th Gen Ipod Video 30gb thingy and I've installed iTunes, which has then imported all my music.

Unfortunately though it's not really imported it very well. Let's for the sake of arguement say I have a folder called Spice Girls - Greatest Hits containing 10 amazing tracks. Instead of now having an album in itunes called Spice Girls - Greatest Hits I now have 10 albums called Spice Girls - Greatest Hits all with one song in each

Oddly it seems to have worked fine for some albums yet not for others and there seems to be no real pattern. Where have I gone wrong?

Thanks!

Select all the Spice Girls songs in that album, right click on one of the songs (with all the others selected) and go to 'Get Info'.

Go to the Options tab, tick and and choose Yes for 'Part of a Compilation'.

That should sort them all into one album without much fuss.

Alternatively, you can quickly re-enter the Album Name and Artist Name (assuming both are consistent throughout the album) under the Info tab and apply those.

Let me know if that does the trick.

This happened to me a lot, and i'd noticed the filenames were ever so slightly different (capital letters in diffeent places etc).

As above really. Select all of your Spice Girls songs (or you know, whatever music you really have), then right click, get info and manually type the album name. This should group them up!

I'm getting there. I now have one troublesome track which won't go into the folder where it belongs. It's checked to be part of compilation with the other folder, but it wont go :(

Right click and choose "Get Info".

Make sure all the Artist / album / etc dialog boxes are the same across all tracks.

The best way to do this is to select all the tracks for the album, then "Get Info"

Wow this is ever so tedious. Why it cannot simply assume everything in a folder is the same I've no idea.

Because iTunes is shocking, but that's for another thread. I don't want to be reprimanded again ;)

It uses the ID3 tags and that's where the problem arises...if they aren't the same...
