Stupid screen resolution to AA question

So i currently game a 1920x1080 and when ever i play a game i just whack everything to max and play happy, including AA.

Now do i even need huge amounts of AA if i'm playing at that resolution and if not, what is the optimal amount?

If you can max out games with AA, the question is - why not?

Well its more of the case of is it needed?

Because i can, doesn't mean i should.
