Am I the only one who thinks this is stupid?

After installation yesterday it took me 4 hours to update. Fair enough, I know that happens etc having bought Everquest 1 years after release, but it meant I couldn't play it yesterday as I went out.

So I got up this morning all ready to try out my new game, and would you believe it, there's a new update which is going to take another 30 - 60 minutes going at the moment. This is getting stupid tbh, what's with all these updates?

The game was nowhere near ready when it launched and there have been a ton of fixes / additions since release. Now you know.

Welcome to Sony Online Entertainment. I am guessing you never played Star Wars Galaxies, which meant for up to 8GB of data being downloaded before you could play the game right up until they finally released them all with a new "total experience" pack.

You can pretty much expect a huge monthly update on Sony Online Entertainment's servers every month, with hotfixes at random intervals inbetween. This means they'll add up really fast, with lots of downtime. :)

you referring to server downtime or patch download time?

server downtime is just cos it does, re-loading dbs, and stability testing the patches etc, dunno if they have a QA team run over the big patches for a bit aswell

as for download, i got patch 1 in about 10mins if that

Can't really blame Vanguard or Sigil for the patch amounts, just look at it this way, at least they are patching it very quickly and making good progress. Would you rather pay for a completely unplayable game, or spend an evening or so patching it up? :p

Every MMO has this issue unfortunatly.. I remember when I played UO 7 or so years ago on a 56kb, it took literally a full week to download all the old patches for it! :D

Patch download time. Just been on (servers about to restart though), and considering this game's been out a couple of weeks, it took me a total of 5 hours to download everything to be able to play it. Stupid SOE :(

And yeah I played SWG, but after they releaed the "Total Experience" pack which is what I bought, so there weren't as many downloads.

The time it took for the patch to download and install took about 15mins and I never even noticed the server down time as I was doing my uni work :p

Nothing to do with soe, its not news that the game was released unfinished and is still unfinished now, expect more , lots more patches :D

I'm on the 10 day trial i cant get in to this game at all :( im a level 6 warrior as i used to play WoW and got bored with that also. I cant seem to find somethnig to do to keep me occupied. I get bored by hunting mobs, then say i have a quest to do which requires a walk to the other side of the earth ill get bored with that as it takes ages :/

game really really doesn pick up till lvl 10 ive found as at lvl 10 you get a taste of your class...getting there is a chore...getting 6/7 is easy, then its a drag to 14 when you usually get a nice group cave to smash up for a few lvls

atleast this is how it was for me...at lvl 10 i got a glimpse of my necromancer profession with the necro loot spell...before then it was just fairly generic debuff and dmg spells, bar my pet, i will also love the day i hit 30 as thats the day i get a true taste of being a necromancer hehe

You have to remember too that the disk you're installing from went gold about 3 weeks before the beta ended, so there's 3 weeks of beta updates to go on in addition to everything they've done since.

I wouldn't be complaining, you've bought it just as it's been patched to the state I would have expected at release.

happens with a lot of games, hell if you had the original wow release discs youd prob have a lot of updates to install...and swg...well christ youve got 2 whole new games to download...good ol layering downloads
