I don't, however I have tried it and it doesn't delete the whole folder. Only the selected files.

i use shift+delete all the time and it only ever deletes the files/folders i have selected.....

Nope. Delete confirmation dialog is disabled and Recyle Bin was consigned to the, er, bin.

Now if I could only get rid of the redundant icon on the desktop.....

just delete the icon

Even in Windows XP that is easy. Just use, gpedit.msc to remove it from desktop.
