Hi

I have two drives in my system. One has a Vista install and loads of stuff on it, and the other has my documents, photos etc on it.

I want to install 7, but i need to be sure that all the programs i use under Vista will work properly. To do that, I will pull the Vista drive out, and install to the other one.

I need to know for sure that if i do that, then boot off the install DVD, that it will not format my drive during setup. (obvisouly it can't format the one i've unplugged, but i mean my other drive with all my photos etc on it).

Can anyone confirm that Win7 Pro X64 will not format it's install drive unless told to?

Unless during the setup you select a drive to format and confirm the action, it won't delete any data off it.

I did something simillar to you when trying the beta of windows 7 and again when it went retail... but if your concerned about losing data always back it up before doing stuff like this incase something unforseen happens.
