Can I use a standard external usb 2.0 hdd with the X360?

I just bought a 160Gb drive for My pc's to transfer data between them and for backup purposes, and just wondered if I can create a 360 folder or partition and have it for this use also?

Also I am just about to connect my X360 to my router - never got round to using Live before, would I be able to share the drive permanently between my 2 pc's and the xbox if I kept it attached to the console?

the harddrive cannot be used for save games etc, the 360 can read music and pictures from it though

through usb should be fine

You can't share the drive from the console - it would have to be connected to your PC. You can then share it from that PC and install the Windows Media Connect software in order to view pictures and music from the Xbox 360.

So I would have to get the branded hdd for game saves? Or cant you use even that one for game saves?

the xbox 360 hardrive can have save games on yes, sorry i didnt make that clear
