Stupidly High CPU Temps

When you say delidded do you mean you have replaced the poopy Tim and put the IHS back or is there direct dye to block contact.

Tomorrow I have a day off so will do some testing with my trusty nh-d14 to confirm it is the chip. If I can get my 2550K stable at 4.5+ again then I will be very happy to keep using that lovely chip.

It's had the IHS removed, the crappy TIM removed and Liquid Ultra applied.

Then the lid has been put back on then Noctua TIM between the IHS and my block.

Although I will be going direct die end of this month ;)
 
I was gonna go direct die but the 2 reasons as to why I did not are this. 1) without the IHS on the die you have to remove the chip retaining mech and massively increase the risk of damaging the socket and 2) the temps are only marginally better...
 
I have never pushed this chip beyond 1.4v.

I used to have a 780 lightning and it was pretty crap. £400 and it wasn't stable at 1189 at 1.212v. Reference 780 reaches 1241 at 1.212v and only cost £270. Plus the stock cooler is ridiculously sexy and the lights dance to music that might be playing.
 
Yeah I had an Inno3d Ichill HerculeZ 780 which would OC much easier than the Lightnings I have. But the LTG's are some of the best built cards on the market and those custom EK blocks look sweet :)
 
My 3770k is 5Ghz Intel Burn Test and game stable at ~1.4v

My old GTX 780 was running a custom BIOS was running a constant 1.3Ghz at 1.212v

This 290 that I have also has higher then average clocking ability!

I'm just lucky I think :D
 
I have had awful luck with GPUs, my 660 and 680 would not overclock more than 40ish MHz.

Never had any CPU but this 2550K which is middle of the road.
 
So I set up a ghetto testbench to try the 3570K on air annnddddd it's still shocking.

Fans on full on the NH-D14 and everything at stock and max temps were still nearly 80C. Gonna send the seller a message about what he did to the poor IHS to make it so bad.

Also the 2550K passed 20 runs of Maxmium stress IBT at 4.6Ghz and 1.365v which gives 121 gigaflops of oomph. Very happy to keep the chip.
 
Contact between the die and IHS must be hosed. Maybe the seller previously tried to delid with a hammer and ended up warping the IHS?
 
Very possible, however it was not mentioned anywhere when I bought it so I have grounds for a refund.
 
Tried the ivy with the stock cooler (had to google how to install it cause I have never used one before) and it got to 100 as soon as IBT filled the RAM. nopenopenope.mkv
 
I'm using a Bitspower waterblock with a 3570K @3.4ghz overclock and temps don't hit over 60c and that's with 2 x gpu's in the loop too! There is something not right with your loop!

There was something wrong with that 3570K. Or are you talking about the 2550K loop?
 
Just played an hour of bf3 and 2550k [4.6 @ 1.365v] got to 75C and 780 [1200 @ 1.2v] got to 58ish. Water temp reaches 50C.
5x120mm fans on rads blowing in at 800rpm.
1x140mm fan exhausting at 900rpm.
All in a H440.

Is that a little warm?
