Stuttering audio in game with hardware mode - advice?

Hi,

I just started playing Lord of the Rings Online which gives you the option of hardware or software audio. Despite having a dedicated sound card (Hercules Gamesound Fortissimo III) when I select hardware the game music stutters quite badly but with software selected there is no problem. My drivers are up to date so I can't think what is causing the problem.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

try increasing pci latency in the bios from 32 to 64.
