Built my new PC over the weekend... seeing a slight improvement from my old one.... 
I had this problem on my old PC but its worse on this one and I always thought it would be solveable by a firmware upgrade.
When I put a cd/DVD in my NEC-3500AG, it stutters for a good minute or 2 and the system stops responding. Then suddently the drive starts reading and everything kicks into action.
As I said, I've done a firmware upgrade to what I think is the latest - made no difference. Just think it's on its last legs?
I could really do with a SATA one anyway for this new mobo.....
