Stuttering in cod games, why??

For some reason within the first minute or say after joining a server it stutters roughly every 8-10 seconds. It does go away after about a minute, but its really annoying. I don't get any stuttering in single player at all and it runs perfectly.

This happens in both cod2 and cod4 (not on steam). The games are fully patched and punkbuster fully updated using pbsetup so I don't know what the problem is. I've recently changed my gpu to a 4870X2 though. When I changed it back to my old single 4870 the problem went away- no stutering.

I'm not sure if its punkbuster or something else. The fact that my new gpu works fine in single player would say its a pb issue. However the fact that it works online with my old gpu would say its an issue with my new gpu :confused:

Any ideas?? Really want to get this sorted.

In the graphics settings put the "Dual GPU" setting to yes

Yep I've tried setting it to yes and no. Also tried it with Catalyst AI on and off to disable the xfire and the issue is still present.

I've also tried the latest 10.6 drivers with and without the xfire profiles. I'm now on the 10.4s which someone recommended to me and I've tried those both with and without the xfire profiles.

I can't see it being a driver issue though as single player runs perfectly.

Anymore ideas mate? lol

Hmm, the only other thing I can think of is to goto recording devices, right click and select "show disabled devices" and enable stereo mix. Other than that I havent got a clue sorry!

I get this too - I looked into it and it's almost certainly punkbuster to blame, and there appears to be no solution other than just put up with it, unfortunately. I can live with it because it does go away after a while after starting a match.

Yeh its definitely pb. Just installed cod 4, patched and updated pb on the other pc and its exactly the same.
