Hi

Since last night I have been getting really bad stuttering in GRID . The game sorta freezes and then speeds up like its catching up to the point where it should be . I havent changed anything in my setup the last 3 or 4 days so I am not sure what has happened . I was on the HIS drivers (8.7 I assume) and I just installed the 8.8s but its still there

Anyone else seeing this ? I checked my temps and they all look fine .
BTW its GRID via STEAM . I defraged the game files , and right now its doing a file integrity check.

Tks

Nah . This isnt micro-stuttering .
I have had the card 2 weeks , and this is the first times its happened . its something else .

The card is free of micro stuttering from what I have seen so far .

I noticed the same thing in Grid after installing my 4870x2, but then I monitored my CPU usage while playing and it is actually that which was causing the problem - Grid wasn't using/being given enough processor power, only using 15-25% or so. I set the priority of grid to high and it is now fine all of the time during a race and most of the time in menus, and when it does lose processor % in menus simply minimising to desktop then going straight back into grid sorts it out.

The problem I had was exactly the same as you are describing.

It's not microstuttering. What you're describing does not sound like uneven frame output, well, it sorta does, but sounds more like megastuttering in comparison.

Hmm ok but , why would it suddenly start doing this ? Is there something else sucking up CPU usage when in-game ? I must check ......

Thanks!

I have no idea why it did it, as you said nothing had changed and it just started, mine was the same - all I know is that that solved the problem for me. I monitored processes in task manager and the only thing that was gaining processor % over grid was the system idle process.

Oh, also, Grid used to do exactly the same with my old 8800 GTS 512 only it was less often and not as severe.

ok ill try it . I am not convinced though.

What CPU are you using ? Q6600 ? Is it overclocked ? What are your clock settings ?

Thanks m8

I had exactly the same issue with my 3850Pro running Vista 32. Sometimes the game would be ok for 10-15mins and then stutter, stutter, stutter. The only way to stop it was to close and restart the game.

Bizarely, after upgrading to Vista 64bit the stuttering has completely gone. I wonder if it can be anything to do with the memory limitions of a 32bit OS. Do you run 4GB ram by any chance?

I was actually playing Grid 2mins before reading this.

I don't bother with that program myself, just do it every time I load Grid which isn't that often.

I'm using an E6600 overclocked to 3Ghz, on an Asus P5W DH Deluxe using 4Gb GeIL ram. Vista 64bit - though it also happened when I was using Vista 32 bit and an 8800 GTS 512 only not as severely like I said before.

Ok . I have Vista64 with all the latest updates.

I just rebooted my machine and changed my FSB back to 360x9 , Q6600 @ 3.2 and FSB of 1440 and it hasent happened since . Just played 2 races and stuttering gone ....

Cpu usage varies from 30% to 60% approx and the odd occaison i can see disk usage kicking in which , i thought was the issue initially ..

Will keep testing .

Hm, if backing off the clocks helped perhaps it's PSU related - which could explain why I notice it a lot more with my 4870x2 than my old 8800 GTS 512. Even though I found a way around it I'd like to find out exactly what was causing it too! I've had no problems in any other games though. I'm using a Corsair HX620.

Edit. Okay scrap that, I just saw your last post!
After I set it to high priority it uses ~55-85% CPU.

Hi

Yeh i dunno . its bloody weird . What ****** me off is , I have had GRID for months , and this NEVER hapenned until last night ???

Anyway , I found this http://community.codemasters.com/forum/showthread.php?t=284729&page=3

It shows you how to create a desktop icon and assign high priority to your EXE

So just locate your Grid.exe in your Steam/common/grid/ folder , drag it to desktop , right click on it , click into Target and paste in %windir%\system32\cmd.exe /c start "" /high at the start of the window ..

See if that gives you priority anyway ...

I'll try that, thanks. At least they're using the same high priority fix I did so I know I'm not mad thinking it was that :D

Yeah . I just tried that and looked at the priority in Task manager but it still shows NORMAL.

Is there a way to show the FPS in Grid or do I need FRAPS or something ?

I just use FRAPS but I haven't looked for a way in the game itself. Launcing grid from that shortcut does make it show as high priority for me, and there is no stuttering (read: sudden massive slowdown then catchup).

Well its showing as normal for me , but CPU usage is at 64% continually as opossed to 30% before . Suttering seems gone but i will need to keep testing .

What are you using to read the priority , just Task Manager ?
