I run a pretty old system and have noticed that over the last year or so I have developed stuttery video playback on various websites. Youtube is okay most of the time, but not 100%.

I have 1GB RAM, an ATI 4670 and and AMD processor might be along the lines of an AMD Athlon 64 3200+. Hard drive is half full/half empty depending on your outlook on life.

I usually use Firefox but have tried Chrome and get the same stutters. I know that my system is on its last legs but can anyone offer advice? I currently have Firefox's hardware acceleration turned off and my components are dust free.

Thanks in advance :)

Its your CPU dude.

When I was running a P4 (before I upgraded it to a core 2 duo), flash video where really choppy etc...

Upgrade your cpu.

Edit*

as a super cheap upgrade another gig of ram wouldnt hurt, but still your cpu needs updating.

Thanks for the reply - yeah, it really is struggling with most things these days! It's strange though as it handles quite a lot of 720 Youtube videos fine. At one point I thought it might be a buffering problem but it wasn't.

I can't really justify upgrading bits and pieces for it - DDR 184 400mhz is expensive these days! Thanks for the comment though :)
