Suarez signs new contract

If he's intent on leaving then he wouldn't have signed a new contract.
Awesome news!!!! Has made me east my words in wanting him gone this ummer, but dayum

But he wasnt going to sign according to other knowledgable posters.

The same posters who said we should have accepted Arsenals first offer of £35m because that's a fair value and he won't try if he's forced to stay? ;)

He only had 2.5 years on his old deal. There's no doubt that part of the reason for the new contract is to protect his transfer value though.

There's very possible clauses in the deal that will also protect Suarez should we not make the CL but I suspect they'll be a lot more than £40m and specifically rule out PL clubs though.

Great deal, do people really think he won't have a clause to get out though after last summer. Get real, he will have something in place allowing him to leave if they are not in the champions league.

It'll still take big money though danny and almost certainly exclude PL sides.

As I said above, if he was intent on leaving then he wouldn't have signed. The fact that he has shows he's committed to staying, providing we make the CL.

I don't think so, I think it was literally just a pay increase. So this deal should bring him up to atleast 6 and a half more years you would image, when he will be 34 years of age!

The previous contract was just a pay rise. The new one is being reported as a 4.5 year deal from now, which will take us to 2018.

IF there's a release clause then no doubt it will be something crazy like £60 million if Liverpool aren't in the CL that season and even then not to a PL club and only grants permission to talk to, not automatically accepted. If they are in the CL then the clause will likely be £80million+ and again not to a PL club and not accepted automatically. The contract probably forbids Suarez's agent from communicating the release clause to anyone as well.

I'd be very surprised if, after what went on this summer, that any clause (if we aren't to make the CL) isn't a firm buyout clause.

As for his agent not disclosing info about these clauses, that goes without saying and is the case with every contract in the Premier League, however it's nigh on impossible to prove unless, like Arsenal did, the buying club take the ****.

If, for arguments sake, the clause was £80m and Real, knowing this, opened the bidding at £65m and then increased their offer in £5m increments, how can you prove they knew about the £80m?
