My 8800 GTX finaly let go today, so I'm in need of a replacement of at least equal power. (I'm assuming <100 can do that nowadays)
Whilst not the avid gamer I once was, I do dabble so something as good as the 8800 GTX was would be ideal.

I know nothing of the current state of GPU world so thought best to ask before possibly wasting money.

Looking on OcUK I have looked at...

OcUK Value GTS 250 512MB £88.99
and well, as for ATI cards I don't know where to begin there is too many! so I just pick one that falls in my budget
Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 5670 1024MB £88.99

Now, I would like equal power to the old GTX but if possible lower wattage, that thing was very power hungry!

Also I have never used ATI so im a little reluctant to go there, Nvidia have always been my GPU of choice for many years, graphics cards tend to last me 3-4 years so I dont get through many.

So sub £100 graphics, what would you purchase :)

I would get second handed (in MM) HD4850/HD4870/GTX260 for £55-£100 ... I think it is the best option, as no need to spend £100 for graphic cards like gts250/hd5670 which can't beat this 3 options!
or HD5770 for £100?!

I use both Ati and Nvidia cards, tbh no difference at all, Nvidia has physix, which is nice cream to a pie, but I am sure u don't need it!

The Nvidia card that you mentioned will be slightly faster than the 8800GTX while the ATI one will be a bit slower. You can get a ATi 4850 1024MB for £80 which should be a little faster than the GTS250 due to the extra memory.

So it's looking like the 5770, I game at 1920x1200 so would I need the 1gig version or would 512 suffice?
Also is there a prefered manufacturer?

Im looking at http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-219-AS&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1515 Mainly because of the 3 year warranty but not had much luck with ASUS in the past.

Its more than I want to spend but if it lasts me for 3 years then an extra £30 is a wise investment.

Thanks
Yes. That's a very good choice of 5770 indeed and yes you should get the 1GB version for that res. This should give you at around 20-30% perfermance gain over a 8800GTX.

Well the cheaper Club 3d OCUK stock has a 2 year warranty and its £112 so over £20 for a extra year seems a bit high, I would think in 2 years time you may be upgrading?

Oh and yeah the 4890 is awesome at £130 albit at the expense of DX11.

4890 smashing card but in real word gaming, I doubt you would notice the difference between it and a 5770, unless you eyeball fraps all the time, the power draw will be a lot more than a 5770 as well.

Asus is a good choice, excellent warranty and it has a good cooler

For £130 you can get a 4890 which will hammer just about everything in the sub £200 bracket at the cost of DX11.

Are these older cards than the 5770? There not on OcUK or my other big retailer and well OcUK = free shipping which helps keep the cost down.

Im leaning towards the 5770.

I would go club 3d but the 1GB version is on pre-order, the Asus just seems the next best choice. In stock and on OcUK so free shipping, so unless anyone can link a better card for the same price thats in stock on OcUK I think its going to be the Asus 5770. Have to draw the line somewhere and £135 is the limit.

Thanks for the help!

You do realise that price is the 512MB version? Also for Club 3D's brand, most people have no idea who they are and how good do they handle the RMA...it's cheap for a reason.

Also Asus's price premium not only provide an extra year of warranty, but the CuCore version offer voltage tweak for overvolting making overclocking even better. Many people are willing to risk voiding their warranty to flash the bios of their other brand's card to Asus bios just for the Voltrage Tweak for the sake of overclocking.
