I've got some cash left over from christmas, and i'm just nearing the end of my exams so i feel like buying some crap for no good reason.. So in the interest of being trolled i'd thought id come here for some suggestions....

My first thought was some nice headphones- e.g the NS1000 , i already have some nice teufel speakers, but i find when you're working headphones are a nice change, and also better quality than speakers.

- Second thought is something decorative, i'm at uni and my room is pretty bare, i had considered an anglepoise lamp at one time, i'm also quite into my music so i had thought of some cool album artwork-artwork..

- 3rd thought was a tablet, i don't really draw all that much, im doing a Mech eng degree so i mainly do technical drawing, but i do really enjoy drawing and art so this was another consideration..

anyways any thoughts would be very welcome and i expect the ,- drugs, aclohol, hoes- suggestions aswell as the "save it " suggestions..

Save it - if there is something you really want in a month then buy it but don't just squander it.

I have only just started taking my own advice and I am vastly better off for it!

Invest in a tropical fishtank? It's different

Ahh, i've always wanted one myself. Just need some spare cash :)

Get a humble coldwater fish instead?

Great idea. Only problem is that he's at uni so it will either get smashed, someone will sick in it or a fish will end up dead somehow (going on past experience of people owning fish tanks at uni!)

Those speakers must be a lot bigger than they look if they are true 120watt RMS. I have some huge B&W 603 floorstanders that are rated at 120

Go with a fishtank, get baby lobster in there instead. This way you can fead them, then eat them when they get beefed up

once you figure out a figure of how much you think you're going to spend on a marine tank, double it :p ... You need the best of the best if a tanks going to flourish and look great, and experience, hopefully i'l get back to the hobby in a few years but its too much responsibility for me at the moment (and was probably too much when i had it... it's hard to remember it being great when everything crashed and died within the space of a week)...

and yeh i'd be interested in a tank, but its not possible being at uni...

also i had a lobster, they're kinda fun, but probably shouldnt have got one ( i got a dwarf species) but they're noctournal and i was never sure if it tried to eat other things... was cool to "hand feed it" though (with long tweezers)...

and the speakers are 30cm tall they don't go all that loud, compared to hifi speakers, but they're for close listening so...-- they're 60W per speaker i think...

Some kind of banterous talking point like hamsters. Low upkeep and best of all you have a quick and easy excuse to bring randoms home after a night out - "want to see my hamsters?" etc ;)

Telescope?

Nah, for £100 or less he couldn't buy anything good enough to be worth bothering with. Plus most people who buy a telescope on a whim soon regret it when they realise they don't know how to use it, or know the night sky well enough to find things with it, or have unrealistic expectations of what they will be able to see.

Reasonably decent binoculars would be affordable on that budget though, such as the "Helios Naturesport Plus". They are more generally useful but are also an excellent starting point for astronomy as a hobby - it's much easier to find your way around the sky with the wide fields of view they offer. Try 8x40 for more portability/comfort or 10x50 for more power (and more dedicated astronomy usage). The "Nikon Action Ex"(treme) series (not to be confused with "Nikon Action", a substantially inferior model) is a bit better than the Helios Naturesport Plus-es but are a smidgeon over £100 depending on which model you choose. I would recommend them first if it weren't for the stated budget of under £100.

A good forum for advice on choosing binoculars: http://www.cloudynights.com/ubbthre...d/binoculars/page/0/view/collapsed/sb/5/o/all

Or yes, save it and be grateful when you find something you genuinely do want to buy.

no to telescope or binocs.. not really very interested in astronomy.. i had considered a camera, but i appreciate i'd have to spend mega bucks to get anything decent for proper photography, and again i'd be buying it on a whim that i would find it interesting...

-- Regarding petrol.. i can't drive, never had any real interest in doing so- although i should really learn this summer- havn't got the need for a car though, nor money for insurance, plus we can't park on campus at uni- and technically not allowed to have one in the city....

- i had considered getting some high res pics put on canvas... maybe some high res album artwork...

thanks for all the suggestions :) keep them coming...
