I don't normally post in the hardware section as I’ve been happy enough with my current setup for the last 5 years but I now realise my ATi X1800XT is a bit long in the tooth.

I tend to play fairly undemanding games graphically (L4D2, Batman AA, Toki Tori) but I know that I’m on minimum spec for new games these days so I’ve been looking at the following cards:

Sapphire Radeon R7 250X Vapor-X 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
Sapphire Radeon R7 260X OC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
MSI Radeon R9 270 Gaming Edition OC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

I’m leaning towards the R7 260X but I’d really appreciate any suggestions please.

I need to stick to a budget of sub-£120, preferably below £100 as I need to upgrade HDD to solid state as well but I want to give myself a couple of years life out of this card.

Thanks

I'd seriously be considering heading to the MM at that kind of budget. You should easily pick up a 7950 for £100 with a year or 2 warranty still remaining. Since the mining bubble seems to have burst, AMD cards are flooding back to the market and driving prices low too.

I picked up a 6950 (unlocked to 6970) for £50 on a popular auction site.

But I have no input on new cards I'm afraid.

What's the rest of your hardware? If it's as old as the x1800xt then you might not benefit much from a GPU upgrade.

Good point about MM – always a bit dubious about buying 2nd hand but always dismiss it due to relatively high shipping charges/hassle factor if something goes wrong.

W7 Ultimate
i7 920 @ 3.33Ghz
Gigabyte EX58-UD3R Intel X58
OCZ 6GB DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Gold (3x2GB)
X1800XT
Samsung 1TB 7200 main drive (4 other drives for media)

I've priced up 16gb upgrade for £100 on OC and a Crucial M550 for my OS drive but I'd like to think I've got a year or two left for my mobo/cpu.

Saying that, it will still be a worth while upgrade even it the CPU, Mobo & RAM need to be updated later to make the best of the card.

There are some 280x on the MM going for £120-£140 :)

There's a 270x in the site B-Grade section for the same price as they normal 270's. If 280x's are going as cheaply as snips86x says second hand i'd snap one of those up though.

For the price of the units 2nd hand I think the B Grade Powercolor Radeon R9 280 3gb is the best option at £10 over budget.

Certainly will give me another few years gaming!

Excellent, thanks for the advice, ordered along with an M550 :)
