I need need a laptop which has a screensize smaller than 15.4" that I can pick up for around £400

It needs to be able to run emulators which require these specs:

* Windows XP
* Latest DirectX
* Pentium 4 2.0Ghz
* 1024mb RAM
* Recommended Video Cards: GeForce FX or Radeon 9200 Pro or higher

Am I being realistic with my budget? Forgive me, I know nothing about Laptops. :o

Just to follow up:

BASE Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T5470 (1.60 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 2 MB L2-cache)
OPERATING SYSTEM Genuine Windows Vista® Business - English
SUPPORT SERVICES 1Yr Basic Warranty - Next Business Day Included - No Upgrade Selected
LCD 14.1" Wide Screen WXGA (1280x800) TFT Display
INTEGRATED WEBCAM Matte Jet Black without Camera
MEMORY 2048MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM (2x1024)
HARD DRIVE 120GB (5400rpm) SATA Hard Drive
GRAPHICS CARD 128MB nVidia® GeForce® 8400M GS
OPTICAL DRIVE Fixed Internal 8X DVD+/-RW Drive including Software
PRIMARY BATTERY Primary 6-cell Lithium-Ion Battery (56 WHr)

The above is a smidge above £400 including VAT and Shipping. Not gonna do much better than that in my opinion. Its a nice chassis to. Although if it was me, id stump up an extra £80 and change the T5470 CPU for a T7300 :)

Still on the Dell website, the above configuration was made via the website only 2 days ago. I cant link to it for obvious reasons :)

Don't forget its classed as a Small / Home business machine and not a home user machine.

If you use e-value code 305-N0314006 on the Dell website, you can get that same spec but with a 160GB HDD and a 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo for £410, incl. VAT and shipping.

I must be doing something wrong but the UK website only shows XPS and Inspiron products. :confused:

Dell > laptops > Small & Medium Business (I tried to give you a hint towards this in the last post ;))

Also, use that code ^^ !! That makes it REALLY good vfm!

[EDIT] Just tried the e-value code posted (just do a search for it and it'll bring the system up). Reduce the warranty from 3 years to 1 and wallah, it does indeed mean you can get a T7250 CPU and 160GB HD on top ofthe spec I posted there. Thats a cracking laptop, a desktop replacement for a lot of peoples machines no less. [/EDIT]

Ok I am trying to customise this with Windows XP. Vista is a RAM hog and is incompatible with some emulators. I keep getting this message despite not having selected any anti virus software.

Errors:
The Antivirus is incompatible with the Operating System. To fix this issue please click on the highlighted words to be directed to the appropriate section to modify your selections.

If you currently have a copy of Windows XP that you can re-use on a new system, why not dual boot? Personally I see little point in configuring a new system using a 7 year old OS when for the same money you can get Vista.

Also, are you positive these emulators dont work with Vista? Have you actually tried them? In my experience, the one or two pieces of SW that won't work under Vista off the bat can easily be fixed using compatability mode.

I don't have a copy of XP. My desktop uses Vista and I don't feel it would be suitable for what I am going to use the laptop for.

Is there anyway of getting past this problem on the Dell website?
