Hi boyz, this is my first post and i'd like your help.I would like to replace my PCI-E x600pro but i don't know which are good cards and which arn't.I have about £150 to spend and want to avoid any dogs.I have p4 550 3.4,1gb ram, akasa 500w psu and 2x160 sata hdd.Regards...Jonny

Thnx guys,i was thinking of the ati but i hadn't looked at nvidia and its well within budget.Just one more question, should i download the latest drivers in preparation or should I use the instalation cd that comes with the card?

Regards...Jonny

The X1950pro is a very good card, I didn't recommend it initially since you said that the £150 was a max budget and it would be slightly over but if you can afford it there is no reason not to. And yes downloading the latest drivers before you start is a good idea. :)

I'd probably go with the HIS model - only £6 more but is clocked higher.

IMO it does justify the expense compared to the 7900GS although that is also a good card and easily the best in the <£120 bracket.

I've been looking at this card too.
Would i see much improvement from my X850XT ?

You'd see a big improvment, I went from a x850xtpe to a 256mb x1800xt and the difference was huge :D
Also consider a 7900gto, can be had for round £190 and better still.

As suggested I bought the his x1950 pro and i'm really impressed. Not only does it play all my games on highest settings but on less graphically taxing games its almost silent(great for late night frags while my mrs is asleep).Dota here i come....

Big thnx for all your advice boyz...Jonny

Alright Jonny, one thing you didn't mention is what monitor you have, what screen res you play games at (1024x768 - 1280x1024 etc) and what games tickle your fancy?

Welcome aboard, no one gets out of here alive! :)

Hi Wayne,I am using a proview(rubbish)17inch monitor at 1280x1024 but i have to use an adapter to connect it as my monitor won't accept a digital signal. If there is a good monitor out there at a reasonable price then i'd be tempted. ;)
