Does this seem a good model ?

I have heard of the brand, and it looks nice enough :)

£420 ...

Any other suggestions ?

Thanks

Would like to attach it to my HTPC and my PC, so i can switch between the 2 (DVI and VGA cables), using this for gaming and my monitor for web etc, plus obviously the HTPC aspect...

is it fully HDTV ? if not, what disadvantages do i have ?

thanks

Looks alright, 600:1 contrast won't give you great blacks (even as LCDs go), but viewing angles and response look ok. The figures are only really a guideline and won't really reflect true viewing quality all that well, and things such as backlight uniformity are unknown here. Good connectivity though, and HDCP over the DVI, so yes, HD ready (720p native, 1080i scaled).

Be warned, PC over DVI may overscan, and VGA might not be 1:1. Expect the speakers to be poor (standard fare really...5W is unimpressive). I'd be tempted to spend a hundred or so more and get something a bit more cutting-edge.

that set is fully HD ready

but the disadvantage is the make.

You'd be best of getting something that isnt going to offer terrible PQ. in TVs you get what you pay for. 27" tv for under £500 it sounds too good to be true and it is

id much rather size down a bit, and get something with a bit better PQ

LG do a 26" LX2 which can be had for about £550, will offer much better PQ

or you could look at the 27" Toshiba 27WLT56 which can be had for about £580. But if it has to be absolutely £500 max

the 23" LG comes in under £500 at about £450

I've seen a number of cheapies recently 32" for £420 unfortunately at competitors that claim they use the samsung panels so 8ms and 1200:1 contrast ratio. So if I was after a cheapy I'd maybe consider something like that.

Can get a 26inch Samsung R41 model (might be R51) for £499 :) or an LG for £516 although my Samsung broke so I had to return it. Gonna try out the LG now.

No because they are rebranded as the name of the competitor. ie like OCUK selling an OCUK telly hence I can't name em. Sorry :(
