Hello there,

So, my girlfriend has finally decided to get a new laptop. She wants it to have the ability to game with but I doubt she'll use it on overly intensive games. As it stands she plays WoW, CSS some times, Sims 3, Minecraft, Lotro. Obviously the ability to play more than this would be a big bonus, but to be able to play the above on at least medium at a steady FPS would be the base requirement (I've seen her FPS on WoW on her current laptop, and it's about 14 all on low, makes my eyes bleed).

I've already discussed with her the option of me building her a desktop but she likes, and wants the mobility of a laptop (being able to bring it to mine, sit on bed etc.).

She's set herself a budget of £500 and can't really go over that, below £500 would be a big plus as we're both saving up to go touring by motorcycle around Europe next summer.

Thanks for the helps guys and girls,
Killgroup.

You will find it hard to find a laptop that is <500 that is suitable for gaming, most laptops seem to come with the 735 or 740m but those are double the price of your budget and really, they are pretty average cards.

Your best bet would be to hover about a famous auction website and try to grab a second hand laptop.

If your wanting bare minimum for gaming your probably looking at something like this:

That is the cheapest laptop ocuk does with a decent discrete card + cpu. Laptops are really hard to pick unless your willing to throw money at it.

I did find a laptop on a popular site, it's specs were:

CPU: i5-3230M 'up to 3.2ghz' (I assume this means it scales depending on application usage, to save power)
RAM: 4GB 1600mhz DDR3
HDD: 500GB
GPU: 2GB Radeon HD7730M

For £499, you can also turn it into an i7 3632QM, 8GB RAM and 1TB HDD for an extra £100.

Does this sound good? I found another site which I'd never heard of offering same specs except with a GT 740M instead.
