Been mulling over updating my old 42" Panasonic for a little while (TX-L42D25.) It's been a great set, but it's around 10 years old now and has started to show noticeable ghosting on the lower edge of the screen, most obvious on images that have a predominantly white background. As it's quite an old set I had a little measure and to my surprise most of the new 49-50" models are not significantly larger due to the much narrower bezel designs on the new stuff. (I couldn't really go any larger) In short I've been granted the go-ahead to "have a look" for an alternative.

I'm at the going to have a look stage this weekend. While the reviews are packed full of technical information I don't think you can beat seeing them in the flesh.

So I've drawn up a short wish-list, and would be interested if anyone actually has a set from the list and any experiences with them, good or bad. Also, am I missing any stand out sets that fall within my max budget? (No gaming, just TV)

Short list
Panasonic
TX49FX750B, £899
TX49FX700B, £599

Samsung
QE49Q6FNATXXU, £899 (well specified set, but horrible remote)
UE49NU800, £700

Sony
KD49XF9005BU, £999

Cheers

yeah i'm getting the 2 confused. the nu8000 is the one with 60hz at 49 inch

I get more that just a little bamboozled by all the numbers the various manufacturers use to catagorise their various models.

Samsung, have a PQI rating that appears to stretch from around 1300 to 2600.
Panasonic, Use Hz, that starts at around 600 and finishes around 1600
Sony, has MotionFlow XR, that ranges from 400-1000Hz
LG quotes TruMotion 100-200.

None of them seem even vaguely related so that you can compare like for like. And now we see 60 & 120Hz panels, that don't relate to any of the other numbers they appear to make up in the marketing department. My old boss used to call it Bul***it, baffles, brains.
