Hey,

I'm helping a friend install a sub and amp into her car at the moment, however the wiring is all over the place.

There's a cable run for the sub from the back of the headunit already. This connects to the amp, correct? It connects straight to the subwoofer output of the headunit (JVC KD-SC601).

We need to run a cable from the battery - where does it connect to on the battery itself?

There's also an earth cable on the amp - where is a good earthing point?

Anything else that needs to be taken into account? The amp is a Kenwood KAC-6202. The connections on the back are as follows:

Batt | GND | P.Con | - can someone explain these?

Thanks!

You'll need to put the power cable directly onto the +ve terminal of the battery, and make sure you've got a fuse within 18" of the battery - the closer the better.

The earth for the amp should be as short as possible, either drill a hole and use a large self-tapping screw, rubbing down the area of paint directly around the hole for a better contact (then spray with grease afterwards to prevent rusting), or attach it to something such as a seat belt mounting point.

The P.Conn terminal is more than likely the "remote" line - it will be connected to the ignition line coming into the head unit, or from the (usually) blue remote/aerial wire coming from the head unit, this wire ensures that the amp is only on when the head unit is on.

The subwoofer output from the headunit will already be only low pass filtered - meaning you will set the amp to a full range signal - the head unit will control what sound gets to the sub rather than the amp.
