Hi

I currently have a JL Audio JX-250 Amplifier which is 250w

im looking at buying a JL Audio 10W3v3-2 Sub and am wondering if this will work?

the RMS on this sub is 500w and the recommended power range is 100-500W.

Im just unclear as to whether this would therfore work? or do i need a new amp?

It'll be absolutely fine. The 500w refers to the maximum power handling of the speaker*.

You'll only experience issues driving speakers with lower-powered amps when you start running it at silly levels and clipping is induced (where the amp attempts to output current beyond its capability, producing nasty harmonic distortion in excess of its power ratings which can damage speakers).

Your amp is plenty powerful enough, and JL stuff is decent so you should have no issues.

* - apparently, according to the manufacturer.

Should work fine as Howard said. I had the v1 of that sub years ago, decent performance for the money :)

Aye will work fine, JL stuff actually puts out what it says on the box. I have a JX250 and a JL Basswedge vented box with a 12w0v3 and the amp is plenty for it, with the box being vented it's more efficient anyway.
