Ok I'm so cheesed off!
For the last 2 weeks I've been searching for a half decent place between mine and my gfs for a cheap price - as I'm TRYING to move to canada I need to save as much as I can and came across this advert.
Now it doesn't look to special but when I went to look at it - the room is bloody huge! and the house itself is nicely furbished etc. so fine I decide to take the room but as any sane human being would ask for- I wanted a contract and to meet the landlord....
this is where things get tricky.
First of all the girl says the landlord is difficult to get hold of. Ok I say, just give me the number and I will call him to arrange a meet and a contract, then she says no, she wants to speak with him first to tell him about me, and that she is thinking about taking the room back in august??? well hopefully I won't be in the country by then so ok I think. But I still need to give him the security deposit as well as have some sort of written agreement. I decide to let her have her way and say to give the details when ready.
a week passes and I'm given a load of "he is due tomorrow" "I'm really busy" bla bla bla. We agreed yesterday that I could move in tomorrow, but today she changes the price advertised from £350pcm to £420pcm + a £350 deposit PAID TO HER!?!?! She's not the landlord, she doesn't even live there anymore so what business I have with her is anybodies guess! She said she wanted me to pay her £250 for up until feb 15th + the deposit + the £45 for bills!? and that I would not have a contract and she would definately be having the place after august.
So I say first of all the deposit has to be done with a unbiased third party, then I need a written contract so she can't kick me out when she feels and take my stuff. She then turns around and says she's putting it back on the market because she can't be bothered!?!? This is a girl who was saying on the day of viewing she can't afford to keep the place!? ARGH!!!!
So now I'm back at square one, with no choice but to raise my budget
saving for canada is gonna be gruelling!
