sub menu to work on clive not on hover

Hi all just trying to help my dad out he sacked the guy who made his word press woo commerce site as he was a useless tool.

Im currently learning web development as a hobby (novice level atm) and thought id try and help him out.

We have a shop menu with 2 sub categories then a few more sub categories under the 2.

i was wondering how to make the categories show on click not on hover.

The Hover is defined in the CSS unfortunatly theres no CSS function for clicks afaik.

You'll have to use a bit of javascript to do it.

Any particular reason you want it onclick rather than hover?

yeah nothing wrong with having it on hover. it's fairly standard so users will be familiar with this method. you should edit the css so that the top level categories that don't lead to any where, don't change colour as though they are a link.
