I've just completed Below Zero (again) and thinking of installing Subnautica for another play as it's been a long time, so wondering what you all
think of the first game vs the second? Also, there's a mod coming out early 2023 (hopefully) -- "Gargantuan Leviathan Mod, which should add a bit of
more fun :) .

TY

IMO yes, Subnautica is better than Below Zero. I didnt really like the land bits of Below Zero and preferred the underwater focus of Subnautica, also it felt to me like the Subnautica map was larger and deeper, with more variation

Thanks all.

I'll be playing it again and I did ask because my internet connection is rather poor right now, so even the 5gb dl is going to hurt some.

First half of the original game is way better IMO - sadly the second half they kind of rushed it without the depth of the build up.

they offer differant things. but i agree the first one on the whole so far i found better. I havent completed Zero yet but not far from completion.
but they added some new stuff in Zero.
the Land element didnt really work well for me, it didnt feel smooth, but to be far the same issues were present in both.
Zero is enough differant but also the same that i've still enjoyed the game.
the sea truck was an improvement over the Cyclops i felt.
if i had to pick between the 2 of them i would most likely pick the 1st.

i felt the structure of the 1st game was better thought out and layerd, and had some what better defanition in regards to the vehicles, in Zero its less defined (Sea Truck + Prawn are all you need). it played better.

Also in case you havent seen it, if your in to base building maybe check out : http://fcstudioshub.com/subnautica/subnauticafcspda/
it has good recmendations, but i havent tried it my self.

I never really felt the Cyclops worked well in the first game and they seemed to have spent a lot of development time on it which would have been better spent fleshing out the bits between about 50 and 85% progression of the game. A lot of the areas of the game it was intended to be used weren't well optimised for using it and using it itself was far too much hassle for what it was.

The first half of the game was an amazing experience though and completely not what I was expecting the game to be.

I'd like to see them remastering the original game on a better engine + ray tracing though and adding more depth into the last half - I think I'd probably replay that.
