Couldn't find a specific thread, what with the sequel and next gen upgrade thought worth creating one.

Looks like along with Below Zero being released today there is a free next gen upgrade of the original for both Series X and PS5.

Supposed to be 60fps and reduced pop in which will be nice.

Anyone played Below Zero?

I had a quick dabble on the first game. The pop in has not been reduced, it’s been changed to fade-in. So you can see vast swathes of vegetation appearing before your eyes in a smoother fashion. So maybe slightly improved. I was playing on Series S and it feels they reduced the resolution to 900p to get 60fps. The UI text is blurry around the edges.

The pop in ruins it tbh, not sure i'll bother as it really distracts me.

I only had a quick play on the PS5 version but the initial load time is a massive improvement.

A lot smoother, used to get a real jarring lag everytime I surfaced for water but that's gone.

The fade in of scenary is much better then the old pop in, much less pronounced.

Didn't notice any DualSense features being used.

Because it is just a gimmick, coming from someone who owns both consoles.

I've got both too, it can be used as a gimmick like Rumble HD with 1-2 Switch but when utilised correctly can really add to a game, I'm sure you've played Astro and it still makes me smile everytime.

The feedback from the triggers in Miles Morales Vs the original on PS4 is also very significant, maybe not a game changer but going back to the original without it just didn't feel right anymore.

I also really enjoyed the implementation in Wreckfest on PS5, not tried the original PS4 version to compare but the triggers get really stiff the more damage to the car which feels like you're really on your last legs.

I love the DualSense overall barring the rubbish battery life, the Xbox pad doesn't feel weighty enough, is too plasticy and I don't find the thumbsticks to be comfortable.

With Gamepass etc. I intended to go all in with Xbox this gen but I'd rather play crossplay titles on the PS5 primarily due to the pad.

I hope MS make something similar. When used properly I found it adds to my enjoyment astro bot certainly being the gold standard so far.

Gotta say I'm loving Subnautica, played it for quite a while previously but learning a lot more this play through. Wish I had figured out the usefulness of the scanner room earlier.

Focused on upgrading my Seamoth so I can take to its maximum depth and building out a lovely 3 storey base.

Downloaded the PS5 version and deleted the PS4 version, impressively it's only about 3.8GB vs the 14GB or so of the PS4 version.

I did the same, surprised they managed to cut the size so dramatically. I wouldn't mind the size going up by them adding 4k textures though.

How bad is the pop in of plants and stuff on the sea floor in the next gen update? I found is so distracting on the console. It's non-existent on the PC version but I couldn't deal with it when I tried it on the Series X about two months ago. I was hoping they'd update it properly but it sounds like they haven't.
