I know that there are tables to help determine what subnet mask I need for a certain number of hosts, but how do you actually calcualte it!?

The sub net mask is 255.255.252.0

I know that this allows 1024 hosts, but how is it calculated!?

Thanks

To put it basically

255.255.252.0
is
11111111.11111111.11111100.00000000 (so 10 bits for host portion)

2^10 = 1024

Sorry, newb, whys it 10bit!?

Edit, think I worked it out, is it the availble number of '0's?
