Subscription software firewall still worthwhile after expiration?

Considering Kaspersky Internet Security OEM as I've seen it pretty cheap.

I know the antivirus part is dependant on definition updates, but would the firewall portion still be valid once the subscription ends and updates cease? As I wouldn't think a firewall needs too many updates.

And does Kaspersky operate like Norton for updates? So if reformat you can still obtain old updates up till the date subscription expired?

TIA.

I can say for certain that Kaspersky AV is date dependent. So if you install and activate it on 1/1/07 it will only update until 31/12/07. A reinstall on 1/11/07 will not get you another year of updates, it will still only update until 31/12/07. It is all down to the activation date, which is logged on Kaspersky's update server. No free year i'm afraid, but it's so much better than Norton just get your CC out.
