Very conflicted.

Looking for a new subwoofer, room is 4.5m x 3m and is a dedicated room with a 5.1.4 setup running Q Acoustic speakers all round (front floor standers, rear bookshelf and in ceiling for Atmos), amp is an Onkyo TX-RZ740.

Ideally i want the sub positioned under the 2nd row raised stage, this has an opening behind the steps with direct room air access, height limit is 37cm.

Height limit screws me a little i wanted a ported sub really but a SVS PB2000 pro will not fit, the SVS SB2000 sealed unit will however.

I have proper cinema chairs so could go under seat for each row but that would impose a height limit of only 25cm, not really keen on cluttering up the front of the room further with a huge sub but may be my best option on reflection.

What else should i be considering in terms of sub models and makes in general? Budget is around the £500 - £1000 area.

I think you already know the answer to this: Off-the-shelf big performance subs won't fit; in-wall subs won't dig as deep or go as loud as a boxed sub for the same money; and that leaves a custom-shape DIY build which is probably going to be disruptive and over budget.

Have you thought about a couple of the BK Double Gem subs? Lie them flat. https://www.bkelec.com/HiFi/Sub_Woo...utm_medium=Double_Gem&utm_campaign=Double_Gem

Yea had a look at the BK stuff was very tempted may give them a go if my first experiment fails:

Done a slight 180 after reading till 1am, going to trial two SVS PB-1000's up front, unfortunately a PB-2000 will stick further out into the room than i would like or would have gone for that with a view to adding a second at a later date.

Another choice was dual SB-2000s with either both up front or in a diagonal configuration, but decided against since the room is 90% for movie watching and i've read many conflicting opinions about sealed enclosures for movie duty's.

Forget about fitting a sub in a small area, get good sub first

I'd probably go the svs SB 3000 imo.

I've got a svs SB ultra 13. I prefer SB myself had the pc Ultra 13 and sold it.

For your small room a single high end sub will be fine.

My room is 24x13x9 and the single ultra is plenty. Although if another SB ultra 13 turns up cheap I'll add another just to go duals.

I'd rather have one high end sub than two cheaper ones. My SB plus 12 does not match the 13 so no way would dual SB plus 12 equal or surpass the single SB ultra 13.

Now if you were comparing dual 2000 versus one 3000 then that's another matter. But two 1000 versus one 3000? Nah

If you had a much larger room sure go ported but in smaller room sealed is more musical and faster. But you will need to go higher end say a single SB 1000 won't be enough volume but pb 1000 will be as pb can play louder. But even mine copes well and I have played it loud. Granted I haven't set sub to +10db louder than other channels.

My room is a lot bigger than yours and most likely higher ceiling (Victorian 9' ceiling) I worked about 4000 sq feet.

Plus SB is smaller I can get away with dual SB ultra but dual pc ultra or dual on on ultra? Nah they're massive

I may end up with two SB-2000s, going to give the PB-1000s a listen first and may cross order the 2000s and send back what i don't like.

Ceilings are 8ft 4inch.

What about 2 BK Monolith Plus's? I think they stack up to the PB2000 from reading but the Monolith pluses dig a bit deeper.

I think you have lost the plot :p

The subs sound good, low end is nice which was totally missing with a Wharfedale unit id had for 10 years+. New subs sound like an extension of the front speakers which is great, when sat in the back row you can't pinpoint the subs locations, which is nice, they add to the sound sound-stage in a positive way, things now rattle when the subs reach low which didn't happen before so need to sort the door catch out for example!

Need to mess around further in the coming week, size wise they fit great, not want to go any bigger as they leave room to upgrade the rest of my speakers at some-point.

Building and hanging my acoustic panels atm looking forward to the difference then need to go though some level calibration and do a movie marathon.

The room is currently in its second iteration, i will probably upgrade further in 4 years when the third iteration introduces a dedicated av processor and power amps so it is probably a positive i've kept under the stage clear as this seems to be a logical place to hide it all.

There's a ATI 6002 on the bay ATM. 300w X2. Flagship power amp.

Think sb 4000 is similar to my ultra just bit expensive at £1800. Prices have increased my old ultra pc ultra 13 was about £800
