My sub woofer is randomly generating a very loud pop every now and then. Even when there no output from my amp.

Any ideas what it could be?

My first port of call would be to try a difference subwoofer coaxial cable - check its not touching anything else and not wrapped around a bunch of electrical cables.

I got the same popping noise from my Velodyne sub 10 years ago before the plate amp failed. It was only because I'd left it on standby for a few days. £120 later I'd learned my lesson & now I leave it unplugged when not in use.

I'll try swapping the cable first.

If that doesn't work it looks like it's on the way out.

I'll make sure I unplug my BK Gemini II in my living room from now on.

Thanks guys.

Disconnect the cable.
Does it still pop? If so your sub is knackered.
Try another replacement cable.
Does it fix it?
If so the first cable is faulty

I would say from the sounds of it the plate amp is faulty.

Does it coincide with anything else in the house turning on/off? Could be a small surge / ripple / back emf on the mains ring from another appliance.

E.g. when my fridge turns on I get a pop from my speakers if they're on the same ring. Fairly sure this killed a channel on my last amp over a few years
