Well the Phoenix has been rebuilt... with the case from my old Special Reserve PC, some new parts and cannibilise the Packard Hell machine - finally up and running.

The only issue I did have was a conflict between the Gigabyte inf drivers and XP, for some reason it kept knocking out pci.sys and preventing the system from installing without repairing Windows. Not sure if anyone else has experienced this.

Anyhow for now I've gingerly pushed my Conroe 6600 up to 2.5Ghz using the built in O/C software, I'll let the system bed down a bit before going any further.

I also somehow trashed my Seagate external drive in the process, think I accidentally partitioned it so any ideas how I can get it to show up in My Computer appreciated. Oh and I didn't need to install seperate SATA drivers for the XP SP1 disk to install, quite a relief.

Sorry if I'm gibbering like an idiot but just so pleased to have done a successful build, wife threatened me with death and/or injury a few times during the morning when it was all taking too long. Off to celebrate with a pint or three now I think.

Use Disk Management in the Administrative Tools. Might have to change tyour startmenu properties to see it. Should be able to repartition and format from there.

Enjoy.
