Hey guys,

Was thinking is there such a thing as a 3 switch box where I could plug my hifi, headset and earphones into and then that into my sound card and then select which output via a switch? Atm I have to clamber under the desk and switch the wire to my sound card which is quite annoying.

You can also buy a decent one for very cheap :) I have exactly what you need but a 4 into 1 with a rotary selector. Very handy :)

Goto google.co.uk and type in (exactly) Four-Way Stereo Audio Switch Box

The first link is the one I have been using for years. Well built and relatively cheap :)

I made one of these to switch between speakers and head phones. Its works a treat but I found that I also had to change the speakers settings in Windows to which ever was in use otherwise it just didn't sound right, especially the headphones if I left it on 4.1 in speaker settings. This was with an Audigy.

Yeah of course, changing the settings in windows is necessary if your switching between headphones/hi-fi. But hi-fi /desktop speakers ain't necessary unless you have some funky speaker setup.

A pre-amp may be good, but if he has a decent sound card then he won't need one. Secondly, in my eyes the OP is looking at a cheap solution. (I may be wrong).
