when i come to my other house, i plug in wireless ap and then start to use it on laptop, well try to but keep getting problems.

one of which is at first i can never find the thing even though im less then a meter away from it. the antenna is pointing directly at me yet nothing.

am i too close? when going further away and leaving it it eventually finds it but that stilll takes a while

Does it then work fine if you bring it to back within 1m of the router?

well its doesn't work fine because of other reasons i still haven't managed to fix. see like atm its a little over a metre away, windows wireless interent screen is saying no wireless connections in range with many refreshes but in the taskbar next to the clock i have an icon saying it has found the wireless ap but with limited or no connectivity.

is the software windows has fine for managing wireless connection? i have never really liked it, constantly adding neighbours wireless to automatic list, saying i have connection but can't find the wireless ap etc, anything better i can try for free?

i made another thread found below, no one ever replied back after tolien and still i get the same problems though obviously this is slithgly different.

Do you have anything that could cause interference nearby, like a cordless phone basestation?

Try experimenting with more positions of the router relative to the computer, because maybe you are out of the optimum beam.

Is it Vista you're using? The software normally does an OK job of connecting me wirelessly.

Also, if you can I would test with another wireless laptop. This will tell you whether it is a laptop wireless card problem or router problem. It's probably your laptop wireless card and to improve the connection you would need to go into really quite tricky stuff adjusting the properties of the wireless card via device manager in control panel.

Yeah try setting your wireless router to different channel, if it's currently on channel 1 then try to switch it to the other end 12/13 and see if your laptop can pick the signal up easier.
