3.5mm to 2 1/4 jack plugs? I want to plug my mic into my emu 0404 but it has 2 1/4 adaptors for each channel. I tried using one 3.5mm to 1/4 jack but it doesn't seem to work.

A PC mic must be plugged into a mic socket as the electret capsule draws power from the soundcard. If you wish to use a dynamic mic (karaoke mic, hand held thing) then your current arrangement may work, but even then a mic output is much lower than line level and you'll probably find you have a lot of hissing if you manage to boost the level enough. Best to get a small mixer for use as a mic preamplifier, or solder together something if you like a project ;)

What model is the mic?

Yeah, that definately needs external power, it uses a noise cancelling capsule. If you want to use that mic, you'll either need to find an ordinary "pink" mic socket (possibly built onto mobo?), or rig something up with a pre-amplifier and power supply to the mic (which is fairly simple, but depends if your handy with a soldering iron :) )

Got the onboard sound enabled aswell as my emu 0404 and have the mic plugged in but nothing seems to be happening.

fyi Emu Sell them on their website, but only their US site.

I've been meaning to get one for a while, but their UK site didn't have one. I was going to try their phone-up shop, but then forgot :p

At the moment I have two mono 1/4 -> 3.5mm adapters, and then I just stick the front and back ins of my 5.1 speakers and get the left of the front and the right of the back..

Kinda dodge, but I only use it for recording, not for playback as I don't have one of those adapters :p

If you try ring them, could you email my trust whether they sell them via UK phone shop?

Cheers.

You've actually rememinded me to do it, but I'm going away tomorrow till sunday so can't now :/

for micing, if it's msn or something, go into audio/video setup (in the tools menu in a contact window) and change the mic input until you get one which registers a signal when you speak to the mic, as the inputs on the emu aren't suited to mics like that, it's more for outputs of mixers or rack gear.

To record I either use record player -> stereo amp phono outs and use adapters, or digital in from my VamP pro thing.
