A 4000+ Newark could hit 3.2 Ghz if it was part of some pre-tested kit I suppose but more likely they just mean a 3200+.

Behind you... Naked!
I see many PCs on sale that lie blatantly about the Speed. The AMD ratings are closer to misleading rather than a lie, but many times you hear about a dual core Pentium, thats say, 2.6Ghx and they tell you its a 5.2Ghz. I think thats a lie rather than just misleading, because I have seen some believeable systems being sold... Such as 3.6Ghz dual core turning out in fact to be 1.8Ghz, which these days isnt worth wiping the poo off your show for.

Its probably that your friend has read the rating but taken it as the true clock speed.

The fastest desktop socket 754 CPU is the 3700 which runs at 2.4Ghz, so yes I think it will be the 3200 754 which runs at 2.2Ghz.

I always took the AMD cpu description i.e 3800 to be relative to a P4's performance i.e 3.8ghz. This is down to the way each cpu is made. It would otherwise be difficult for AMD to sell a 2.4ghz chip as '2.4' when compared to a pentium 3.8 hence the 3800/4000 descriptions.
