Hey guys,

I've been looking a mates machine tonight that does the following:

posts fine, loads the windows splash screen etc. but bsod's when the mouse cursor has loaded and windows is about to load... the machine briefly displays a bsod and then reboots - this cycle is endless :(

Any ideas? At first I thought it might be memory but I've swapped the sticks out and the problem remains.

Help!

try safe mode. it that works you can check the event viewer and maybe turn off the option that automatically reboots when a blue is encountered. then you can at least read it. :p

Nope. Tried getting into safe mode, have the same problem :(

Currently testing the hard drive with wd's data lifeguard tool...

Run the thorough test as the quick test doesn't always show anything up.

Can you google the stop code? You can disable automatic restarts during system failure using F8 on startup.

Did the thorough test and it found nothing...

I disabled the automatic restart and it turns out the bsod error is a "STOP Error 0x00000050: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA"

Ideas? I'm going to bed now but I'm running memest on the original memory to see if that throws up anything? If it doesn't, I'm right out of ideas :(

Chkdsk the drive, get an red type boot disk and system restore
I've done a chkdsk /r from the recovery console and that didn't do anything? Could it be a display driver issue - although if it was it would let me get into safe mode wouldn't it?

What's a red type boot disk?

Thanks for the suggestions guys ;)

Still having problems guys...

I tried restoring a previous registry in ubcd4win but still get the same issue :(

Also tried fixboot/fixmbr. Is bootcfg /rebuild worth a shot?
