Sudden change in insurance quotes

Been using comparethemarket throughout January to get quotes on 1.6 ibizas, focus, 206's and the only thing that's changed is when I had said i'd passed (a difference of a month). All of a sudden admiral (which was the cheapest, often returning 850-900 quotes) disappears. And I'm left with M&S quoting the cheapest of 1200...

Nothing else has changed with regards to my details. :s

Any ideas?

Insurance when you are passed (and thus allowed to drive around unsupervised for the first time) is generally more expensive than when you're on a provisional.

Try Admiral directly though, they're almost unmatched when it comes to young drivers these days, so it seems odd they wouldn't quote at all...

ME

Get a credit card and pay the insurance off in one go with that. Sometimes it can chop off as much as 25% from your premium.

How old are you?
How long have you been driving?
How many years NCB?
Which postcode grade do you live in? http://www.carinsuranceexplained.com/car-insurance-explained/car-insurance-postcode-risk-list.html
Do you have any points/convictions?

Try adding your mum to the policy as a named driver, see if that changes it at all.

Run through these sites..

moneysupermarket
comparethemarket
confused
elephant
admiral
bell
directline
aviva
post office
tesco

Also, check this site for tweaking your job title for the cheapest quotes

It'll take about 20 minutes if you hammer through them.

I highly recommend creating a new email address to do this! (to stop spam) and use a fake phone number. If you take out a quote, update your email&phone number when confirming the details

I find Admiral give the best quotes for me.

Avoid places like Swift cover unless you absolutely have to, they don't have proper windscreen cover etc.

I had this problem with admiral just dissapearing. Try calling them direct and see if they can retrieve your previous quotes then amend it

On my previous quotes i'd put in a false pass date to get the quotes and it was less than a month between the policy start date & pass date.

I probably will go direct, but I wish I knew what was causing this.

edit; thanks for the replies, will run through some other compare sites. I've got the money for insurance up front so the credit card tip is interesting.

Admiral sometimes disappears on me, but reappears later in the day.

Also when ringing admiral direct, it can be cheaper to retrieve the quote you got from a comparison site :) (£1000 difference for me being young)

After I'd done a handfull of quotes last year they stopped showing up too.
I just assumed it was because of the sheer amounts of quotes I was doing lol

I recently changed insurers to admiral, I belive somewhere it says that their quotes have a limited lifespan and that my quote would remain valid untill a set date unless I accepted it. I presume that after this date passes you have to get a new quote.

Having been looking at quotes for various cars, I can confirm that Admiral only accept a certain amount of quotes, and then they stop appearing on comparison sites, e.g. comparethemarket & confused.

Which is a right pain because Admiral insure the exact same car for 10 months for £820 direct, or 12 months for £799 through Confused XD
