Hey guys,
Im new to the forums but not new to Overclockers, been a long time customer.
Alright Im gonna get straight to the point, for about maybe coming on 6-8 months now Iv been having this constant problem which is plaguing my gaming experiance hugely. In most games that I play now (BFBC2, Mass Effect 2, DoW2, Left 4 Dead etc.) I will be playing fine for about 5-30mins and then suddenly outta no where my pc drops hugely in FPS and I have major input lag. Now sometimes after about another 5 minutes it resolves itself and goes back to normal and other times it doesnt. I thought it was my power supply as it looked like it had really slowed down so I went it got another one (Corsair 650w), got it installed it and I still had the problem. Sooo I went and got a brand new hard drive (It was dieing anyways so thought that is what might be causing it) and still the problem lives on! Does ANYONE know what this problem could be? I would greatly appreciate some help with this as I just wanna get back to my normal gaming ='(
Oh and my pc spec is not the problem as sometimes it runs games for like an hour or two without any drop in FPS and input lag.

I did say which games Im playing but if ya want em again: BFBC2, Mass Effect 2, DoW2, Left 4 Dead, GTA4, Black Prophecy Beta etc.

PC Spec:
Intel Quad Core 2 Q6600 2.4Ghz
Crucial Ballistix 2GB DDR2
GeForce 8800 GTX
Asus P35 Motherboard
Windows 7 Ultimate Edition.
Corsair 650w Power Supply

Anything else ya need?

Might sound a bit obvious but have you checked what processes are running when you get the problem? anti-virus doing a scan or similar?

Checked processes, shut down everything apart from essential programs and no scans going on. Never checked my gpu/cpu temps... Tbh I dont really know how =S

As others have said, it sounds like temperature-throttling on the GPU.

Monitor GPU temps, and if they're high then take out the card and have a look at it. Chances are it will be caked with dust around the fan inlet or the air inlet.

Done a check on my CPU/GPU temps, all 4 cores are at around 35º-40º and up to 45ºish when playing games. Now the GPU was at 90º while idle and went up to 110º when playing games, so after reading Duff-Mans post I was like "Pfft! I always clean out my case with canned air" and my graphics card fan is upside down so I though obviously no dust is gonna get clogged in there ...Oh how wrong I was! I took it out and the thing was literally "caked" on! So cleaned it all out, turned the fans onto medium speed and booted up, GPU was down to 40º! So I tested out GTA4, BFBC2 & Black Prophecy and every single one of em worked awesomely!! Who would think that a lil dust could make such an difference! Lesson learned today: Even if you clear out your case your fans that are upside down can also get clogged!

Thank you guys for all your help, got a nice temp program and learnt to clean my graphics fan.
