Sudden freeze-ups?

My gf's laptop has started freezing up, but what's strange about it is that it just happens randomly without any slowdown or warning something's wrong. She'll be browsing the net (I suspect facebook) and it'll just lock up instantly so she has to hard reboot. Any ideas why this could be happening?

Try looking in the event log for clues, it could be one or more of a long list of things.

facebook, same thing here with it on a laptop, did it earlier, but ctrl/alt/delete and end facebook worked

Could be the hard drive failing.

Nah, new(ish) laptop. Having removed a user style from her facebook seems to have sorted the problem, so guess it just didn't like it. Was weird though. Couldn't ctrl+alt+del out or anything, just locked up.
