After purchasing a Windows Phone on Friday. I have suddenly been attacked with a massive increase in spam on my email account which I read from my PC.
Can anyone throw any light on what I may have registered whether unintentionally or through necessity having this phone. I have only downloaded apps through the Microsoft Store and may have furnished my email address because of the installed Outlook. But apart from that I cannot think what else I may have done.
Any ideas of how I may reverse it and/or any other way of blocking/stopping these emails. They are automatically being sent to my junk folder I assume by Virgin Media or Kasperky and I am adding them to the blocked list. But I assume that they randomly change the addresses to overcome this.
Please help.

I used O2 and my email is already known to them. I am now thinking it may be down to VirginMedia and their new email system introduced over the last few days,. Maybe the spam filters have not been enabled. I shall have to contact them - that should be a laugh

Try punching your email address into Google (with quotes) and see if it shows up anywhere. I had a big increase when another forum I frequent got its database compromised. Getting a new phone might be a coincidence.

Otherwise virgin's spam filter might not be as good as Google's (not hard to believe).

Ive had the same issue and putting it down to moving from Googles framework to VMs - just loads of bloody spam email undeliverable messages since around the 25th onwards...

Are yours being highlighted red and being sent to the junk folder as mine are. If not would that be done by my Kaspersky AV as I've never seen it before.

Same here, getting several Mailer Daemon undelivered message in my VM spam folder, from spam sent out from my address advertising weight loss products. Only started happening in the last week and i've had my lumia for a few months so I think its something to do with Virgin mucking about.

Seemed to appear at the same time as the extra re-capcha thing appeared on the VM login screen.

I've had loads of spam recently from whatever change Virgin have done - getting so annoying that I'm considering just setting up a new email.

It's damn annoying.

It is all down to VM changing their platform away from Google based to their own. Alas the filter that Google provided are there no more and VM are working on how to implement their own. Although it's been known for as while the escalation has only occurred in the last few days and has spurred them into having to deal with it. The IT guys are on the case. Give them a couple of months.
