Sudden power loss

I'm probably being a little paranoid, but yesterday the power was suddenly cut from my computer (somebody fiddling with the house fuse box without telling me ). I've never had a sudden power loss whilst my PC was switched on, so naturally I was a little concerned.

I've checked everything and all seems fine. I know it could cause disk errors, but I've ran chkdsk and it reads ok.

My question is, can a sudden loss of power to the computer, physically damage the hardware in anyway?

It can but not likely, most likely would be a corruption to the HDD if it was writing when it went down, less likely is a possible surge in power at the point of power loss which could cause the PSU to blow taking anything/everything with it, easily rectified with decent surge protector. If youre really worried you can invest an a UPS but Ive never bothered personally
