Hi,
As off last week my PC has been instantly shutting off without warning. This is the log it leaves in the event viewer.

Log Name: System
Source: Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power
Event ID: 41
Level: Critical
Description:
The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

The Details tab displays the following information:

EventData
BugcheckCode 0
BugcheckParameter1 0x0
BugcheckParameter2 0x0
BugcheckParameter3 0x0
BugcheckParameter4 0x0

The shutdowns happen approx 30 minutes from restart, regardless of whether the system is sat on desktop or under heavy load.

So far I've monitored temps up until shut downs and seen nothing out of the ordinary, I've also tried swapping out the ram, removing the GPU and running on the IGPU, replacing the GPU with another one, checking for viruses and other nasties, creating a new install of windows and checked all the cables to make sure they are seated properly.

Im currently waiting on a mate lending me his PSU so I can check that, but for the time being I would like to know if there is anything else I can check or any other methods of testing components?

Thanks

System Spec:

Intel Core i7 3770k + standard fan
Asus Maximus Gene V Motherboard
8GB Patriot Intel DDR3 1600 RAM
3GB Gigabyte GTX 780
Samsung 840 Pro SSD
2TB Seagate Barracuda HDD
Silverstone Strider Gold 850w PSU
Windows 8.1

Does the system power on again instantly or after a certain period of time?
This did start happening happening to my system a few months back system would turn off randomly then turn on again fine after a few weeks though it got worse replaced psu all sorted

event 41 just means the pc shutdown unexpectedly it doesn't give the reason for the crashes

any bsod codes? when it crashes?

how much vccio/cvvsa voltages are you using in the bios and how much dram voltage?

IF you can, try another PSU.

IF not, then it might be worth taking it all out and doing a test outside the case just to make sure its not shorting.

It will boot back up instantly after its shut down and then shuts down again after the same period of time(30mins).

No bsod codes, just powers off.

VCCIO 1.050v
CVVSA 0.950v
DRAM 1.5v

I was meant to be trying a mates PSU but he's away on holiday and when he gets back I'm off on holiday.

I've had the PSU out and a second before it shuts off it makes a static electricity click noise. I've also noticed when the system is turned off but still plugged in if I put my ear near the PSU there is a quiet high pitched whine coming from it. Is any of that normal?

yeah a slight whine is normal, coil whine

try one click more on dram voltage and vccio

Yeah I had a bit of coil whine in my old PSU but only when it was switched on, just wasn't sure if that was normal when it was off.

What about the static sounding click? I was think it was the fan switch but I've listened a couple of times and it's a different sound to the fan clicking on and off.

No luck with changing voltages it's still crashing :(

it could be faulty psu idk,but try the easiest things first

the clicking could be a regulator/switch type thing they charge up with power then click as they release it

I find it very strange that its exactly 30 minutes that it shuts off

running same cpu/ssd/windows here and no restarts like that

Ive had everything out and swapped with different hardware apart from my PSU and MB, they are both still in warranty so might just give OCs a ring tomorrow and see what my best option is.

Have you installed windows updates recently by any chance?

No, I had been working away for a few weeks and the PC has sat untouched. Switched it on to send a few emails and it shut itself down after about 30 minutes. Ive also had it sat on the BIOS screen and it still powers off after the same amount of time.

Same here I am completely perplexed. Its down to about 28-29 minutes now, I keep track of the up time in task manager.
