Morning, my main PC has just died, literally whilst on power dead immediately now nothing on power button press.

It had a new PSU two months ago, so i have swiched this out and put in one that definately works from backup machine.

Nothing, no spin up no beeps, nothing.

I have taken original PSU and put in backup machine and this fires up and computer works so definately not PSU.

What is the next step?

One is 1156 one is 1155, so i can't switch MB or CPU.

When the switched PSU is used, the power light comes on for a fraction of a second. This is also true on the motherboard. Literally a fraction of a second and then off.

Would a flat MB battery cause this effect? or has something more critical, CPU/MB died?

Help please

My bet is its to do with the motherboard since it doesnt even post. Although a faulty CPU can also cause it.

Take out the BIOS battery, leave it for half and hour and put it back in again. See if that makes any difference.

Ok took battery out and left away from MB. I even used a new battery.

Wire back up and hit power, two lights on motherboard that flash and then nothing. No spin up, no nothing. Only PSU, MB, 1 HD plugged in.

Is there anyway i can tell whether this is CPU or MB, before i buy both new>?

Much more likely to be motherboard. CPU's don't often fail, whereas blowing the power circuitry on the motherboard is quite common.
