I'm looking at buying a camera for my wife, she currently has a Nikon D3000 - looking to spend around £500. She does a bit of "urban exploration" so perhaps a low light lens might be useful ? and perhaps a zoom lens up to 200 - 300mm. I understand £500 may not be a great amount to spend but any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

What lenses does she have at the moment?

Nikkor 18-55mm ( nikon DX ), also has VR on the lens

You will have to excuse me as this really means anything to me.:o

My wife had a Sony A200 ( that broke ) before her Nikon, she had a sigma 55-300mm lens with that. She often mentions that she wishes she had a similar lens. I know it would be cheaper to keep her current camera and just buy a lens but i would like to get her a better camera and lens if possible for £500.

A 55-300 would complement her existing lens instead of replacing it. I also don't think Sigma make a 55-300.

You could get a Nikon D5100 (body only) and a Nikon 55-200 within budget (there's £40 cash back on the D5100 at the moment).

There are also Nikon versions of various Sigma and Tamron 70-300 & 55-200 lenses as well. But the only one that gets recommended a lot is about £300.

EDIT: The sell the D3000 and spend the money on either a decent tripod or a Nikon 35mm f1.8.
